Abstract
Landslides, caused by both human and natural factors, occur worldwide with volumes ranging from a few thousand to several million cubic meters. Each year, the occurrence of these landslides leads to significant loss of life and financial damage. Among the human activities capable of inducing landslides is the excavation of open-pit mines, which creates steep walls. The most effective method for preventing collapses or mitigating their damage is the analysis of these walls through monitoring and the identification of potential slip zones. In this study, Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (InSAR) was used to monitor and identify potential slip zones in the walls of the Gol-e-Gohar iron ore mine No. 3. To apply this method, 12 images from the Sentinel-1A satellite, acquired over 11 months, were processed. The results indicated the presence of two zones with a high probability of slippage within the mine pit. Furthermore, the displacement in one of these zones was measured to be 22 mm over 12 months.
