Abstract
Wall instability in open pit mines can have very detrimental effects on mine safety and economics. Classification methods provide engineering solutions to examine the impact of each geomechanical factor on wall instability. These methods, while examining and weighting each of the effective factors, suggest relationships to provide a criterion for the wall stability for decision-making. This weighting can be different in different conditions and regions, and the use of studies with common conditions can be useful. Chadormalou iron ore mine is one of the large Iranian mines located in central Iran, where appropriate geomechanical surveys and tests have been carried out on this mine. In this study, after reviewing the initial information and building a database, a block model of a part of the eastern wall of the mine was estimated for geomechanical parameters including uniaxial compressive strength, specific gravity, and internal friction angle. Then, using fractal modeling, zones for each parameter were identified and by comparing each of these parameters with the cumulative displacement obtained from radar, the overall agreement of each of these factors was calculated using the log-ratio matrix. Accordingly, the uniaxial compressive strength and internal friction angle obtained from the direct shear test showed greater agreement with the displacement.
