Abstract
Based on the results of laboratory tests, various parameters significantly influence the behavior of granular materials. This article examines the effects of all-around stress, the shape of the grains, and the fracture mode on the propagation of particle fracture within granular materials. To achieve this objective, numerical simulations of several biaxial tests are conducted utilizing the discrete element method. In addition to being cost-effective and efficient, numerical methods can focus on one or multiple specific parameters, enhancing their utility in this field of study. Finally, the results obtained from the numerical modeling with the code of separate components used in this research are compared with the numerical and experimental results obtained from the past works in a graph. The comparison between the results shows an acceptable agreement between them. There are also differences in the results, which may be due to the two-dimensionality of the simulation, as well as the difference in how to define failure in experimental and numerical tests; Therefore, in general, using the desired code for future simulations seems appropriate.
